There a few things that I enjoy more than preparing a balanced meal. The techniques Mom taught me I use often.
She felt it was important, that I learn as part of my life skills.. We began with a chocolate cake as soon as I could reach the kitchen counter. I may have needed a stool at the time. We often made cakes together, or fudge for an evening snack. Neither of which I make now.
Mom made doughnuts. There were 3 recipes she used often, a plain, a chocolate, and a raised doughnut. I was the 4th of 5 children and doughnuts were not part of her required training. While in High School I decided I wanted to learn. It took some effort, but she finally agreed and taught me the techniques for making doughnuts.
Eventually as a team, we set up a doughnut station at a church bazaar. Life’s best memories are often simple occasions of working together. This is one of my favorite memories.
I no longer bake cakes, doughnuts are a big mess and take time, so I seldom make doughnuts. Over the years I decided I wanted to make pies, with apple pie being a favorite. While, Mom didn’t teach me to make a pie, she did offer suggestions. The confidence she instilled in me made it a possibility. I have her to thank for the joy I get from creating tasty dishes.
I’d like share family recipes and will add a few of my own.
If you have a recipe you would like to share please include it in the Comments and Suggestions link. Note: If a recipe is found elsewhere on the internet, I’m not interested in anything but a link, please do not copy and take credit for anyone else’s recipe.
The desire is to have some fun and enjoy suggestions from friends and family.
I hope you enjoy.
